Tatham Fells Old School description
School / College / Library
Extra Large (300+)
We are a small Voluntary Controlled rural School located just outside the hamlet of Lowgill, on the North Western edge of Lancashire. A stunning location, wonderful pupils, supportive parents and a dedicated staff all make for a superb school environment.
We are located on the edge of the hamlet of Lowgill in the Forest of Bowland, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our catchment area includes many farms as well as converted farmhouses and barns and extends over the fells and wooded valleys for approximately a five mile radius. Children also choose to travel to us from larger villages and settlements further afield.
There has been an educational establishment in the parish of Lowgill for over 160 years. The Old School, which dates back to the 1880s, nestles behind the Church of the Good Shepherd about a half mile walk from our present school, which was opened in 1961.
As a small school, we have the opportunity to personalise our pupils learning experiences to ensure that every pupil is supported and guided in making the next steps in their learning. The school is a member of the Lune Valley Small Schools Cluster, comprising eleven schools - this ensures that we do not work in isolation and that there is an exchange of ideas, expertise and the chance for coming together for inter-school activities.
Our school grounds are extensive, including a football pitch, adventure play area, playground and organic garden. There is a wild life area, with views to the Lakeland hills.
