Shining a light on mental health
This week marks the annual Mental Health Awareness Week, a week dedicated to promoting mental health and well-being across the UK.
Sir Bob Murray is best known as the former Chairman of Sunderland AFC and the visionary behind the Stadium, Academy and Beacon of Light.
But away from the Sunderland boardroom he occupied for over 20 years Sir Bob has built successful businesses, established the Foundation of Light to support his beloved home region and led a life so interesting that he’d do it all again
Sir Bob's autobiography ‘I’d Do It All Again’, will be available to buy at the Beacon of Light from 12 October.
100% of proceeds from sales of the autobiography will go to the Foundation of Light.
The Fans Supporting Fans mental health drop-in service for football fans is run by supporters' group the Sunderland Branch Liaison Council and local charity Washington Mind, in partnership with Foundation of Light.
Drop-in every home matchday from 12.30-2.30pm
The group offers free-to-attend talking sessions for men, challenging the stigmas around male mental health. The Sunderland meetings take place on Mondays at the Beacon and provide peer-to-peer support for any man aged 18 or over.

Through our World of Work Zone we help employers, young people and unemployed remove barriers to gaining skills and employment.
Working alongside schools, colleges and other agencies we promote a lifelong love of learning by promoting education through purpose-built classrooms, innovative teaching techniques and interactive spaces.
Through personalised, inspiring and authentic learning experiences our aim is to nurture talent, build character and help shape futures.

The Beacon of Light will be closed when Bruce Springsteen performs at the Stadium of Light.
We are inviting families to gather around our big screen and enjoy the new Disney release, ‘Wish’.
Every penny we make at the Beacon is given back to the Foundation of Light, to help tackle some of our region's biggest challenges including social isolation, unemployment, food poverty and poor physical and mental health.
Thanks to you, this critical community work can continue.
