Kentwell Hall House, Gardens & Special Events description

Historic Venue / Wedding Venue / Business Meeting Rooms / Party Venue / Wedding Barn / Team Building Venue

Extra Large 300+

Kentwell Hall is one of England’s finest Tudor houses, developed in stages between about 1500 and 1578. To reach Kentwell you will drive 3/4 mile along an avenue of Lime trees. The house is fully moated and reached by two original bridges.

The house is not a stately home but a very much lived-in and loved family home, something it has been for over 500 years.

It is also a project - for 35 years now, a non-stop effort to save this beautiful house, re-create its gardens and form a traditional style farm with rare breeds, including the Suffolk Punch (horse), Norfolk Horn Sheep, Long Horn and British White Cattle and the Baudet du Poitou Donkey; less than 60 in the UK and 800 in the world.

The gardens at Kentwell Hall are a combination of ancient features, landscaping and planting where everything is totally organic. The gardens include the main front lawns with a HA HA and wildlife pond, The Walled Garden with a maze of Lavender and a wonderful range of Herbs and Potage, also has in excess of 60 different varieties of Apple and Pear trees.

One sight not to be missed is the ancient Yew trees with a modern hedge of ‘Pied Piper’ topiary.

Kentwell Hall is home to many special events throughout the year; Tudor re-enactment weeks, Kentwell through the Ages, Magical Weekends and the award winning ‘Scaresville’. Plus musical and outdoor shows.

A fantastic venue with so much to see and do and that all the family will enjoy.

Kentwell Hall Through the Ages Re-creation

26 May 2018

From a Neolithic camp to the twentieth century (with a few historical surprises along the way), this is a fantastic event for all the family!

This is a wonderful journey starting with the The Neolithics, you never know what you might find in the woods - a shaman, some hunters and crafts in our earliest re-created period yet!

Then on to The Romans; ‘will they choose to settle at Kentwell’?

Of course, a visit to Kentwell would not be complete without our two main time periods! In the Moat House, the Elizabethans will be hard at work in the bakehouse and dairy. Upstairs you will find the stillroom where lotions and potions are made, and the needlewomen working on their latest wall hangings and The Alchemist will be in his hut.

And there is so much more to see including 17th Century music and dance. The Victorian Household will be offering an insight in to what life was like in 1869.

The list of activities go on and on including:

WWI - the Home Front

The 1920s

WWII - with the Home Guard, the War time kitchen & the WVS ladies

The 1960s

The 1970s
