Built in the 1930s, Sowerby Parochial Hall was refurbished in 2004/05 and the kitchen upgraded in 2019; it is one of the largest halls in the district.

The main hall measures about 55 ft x 33 ft and the smaller Merriam Room in the Annexe next door (which has a kitchenette and disabled toilet) is around 17 ft x 14 ft. The hall has a modern catering kitchen; stage; ladies, gents and disabled toilets; a spacious entrance vestibule; and limited car parking. The entertainment licence capacity of the main hall is 120 people, though we recommend a maximum of 100. The Merriam Room can hold up to 20 people.

The main hall and Merriam Room are booked by a wide variety of community groups and individuals
and booking levels have steadily increased over the past few years. While the main hall is well used most days of the week, there is more chance of finding available space in the Merriam Room, and we plan to have a small craft room available next to the new kitchen soon. Please note that, owing to bad experiences, we cannot host parties for teenagers and young people.
