SINCE 1745

A beautiful 18th-century building with all the amenities of a modern establishment, the County Assembly Rooms is an historic building located in the Bailgate and only a short walk away from the Cathedral and Castle. A fantastic venue that caters for weddings, social and business events. 

Within our Grade II* listed building, you’ll find three main rooms, each ideal for various events. Whether your celebrations are intimate or grand, you and your guests can revel in style at our bars, dance the night away in our breathtaking ballroom, and find a serene retreat in our Edwardian Suite, or Courtyard Garden— with views of the stunning Cathedral.

DINING OPTIONS

We provide a wide range of food options, from fine dining and three course wedding breakfasts, to casual choices like hog roasts and wood-fired pizza. We cater to all dietary preferences, so let us know about any concerns, and we’ll ensure a delightful dining experience for you and your guests.

THE NEAREST BAR

Open Sundays and daily from early 2024

The Nearest Bar is conveniently situated at the front of the building and is easily accessible direct from the Bailgate. Open Sundays at present for the weekly craft fair and daily from early 2024, the bar will be serving tea, coffee and cake plus light refreshments with the option of an alcoholic beverage, cocktail or glass of fizz. We promise you a warm welcome and a well stocked bar with all your favorite drinks.  The Nearest Bar is never too far!

THE OVAL

The Oval Room was added in 1914 and is perfect for wedding ceremonies, small receptions or conferences.  The spacious room can be used in conjunction with our stunning Ballroom as a dance space, a drinks reception area, bar, an area for photo booths, sweet carts or just a place to sit and chat while you take a break from the main party. Whatever your vision, our team is ready to make it happen.

THE BALLROOM

Built in 1745, boasting one of the only 18th century ballrooms in the county, this gorgeous space is perfect for your fairytale wedding or celebration. With a maximum capacity of 400 guests and with an alcove area that is great for speeches, a cake stand or auctions, there is plenty of space for all your plans. Also a perfect space for craft fairs, live music concerts, theatre productions, themed events, comedy nights and much more.

Our ballroom is also licensed for wedding ceremonies.

The Edwardian Bar

The Edwardian Bar and Courtyard is open during the summer months as an area perfect for cocktails, Prosecco and light refreshments. A luxurious space with comfy seating and gorgeous views of the cathedral, our courtyard is the perfect place for evening drinks in the summer sun.

THE EDWARDIAN SUITE

Our newly renovated  Edwardian Suite comprises of The Edwardian Room, The Edwardian Bar and The Courtyard.  Decorated and furnished in an Edwardian Style, it is perfect as a standalone venue or as an additional space for your event.  Perfect for smaller intimate events with an adjacent bar and private outdoor courtyard with stunning views of our Cathedral.
