Pandy Tudur Hedgelaying

This Year's Competition

We had a very good day with 28 competitors, the best turn out to date. With 3 classes as you can see from our day program.

As we had 14 in the beginners we gave 5 prizes. We had 6 new faces in the beginner’s class with Euros Williams phoning on the Friday night and hoping there was room, he said this was his first competition and went on and won in style. All 5 prize winners in the beginner’s class are new to Pandy Tudur Hedge laying bar Harry who was new last year.

In the (for us) new intermediate class, Jim Kilpatrick has been improving every time he competes, one more win and he will be in the open Class. Gareth Evans who came the furthest, came 2nd. and Maldwyn’s brother came 3rd. Dyfrig has had a prize in every competition we have held.

We had excellent weather and a good number of spectators, Thanks to Paul Furnborough of the North East Wales Wildlife Glascoed Nature Reserve for the excellent site and hedge. With competitors saying it’s nice to lay a hedge and not a forest. The work overall was very good but the open class was a sight for sore eyes, won by Richard Lewis.

As we are getting bigger each year finding a suitable hedge within ½ hr drive from Pandy Tudur is getting hard. We do have some up our sleeve, but need to grow a bit more. So if anyone has 200m plus of hedge planted in the last 15 to 20 years with good road access, please contact Emrys Owen 07787561185.

As of today I do not know where we are next year, but I think the committee members have some ideas, I hope.

It looks as MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE ASSOCIATION will receive a handsome sum we hope of £800 plus. It still astonishes me how generous people are.

This project is part funded through the Rural Development Plan which is financed by the EU and Welsh Government.
