Heeley Institute is a Grade II listed building and former chapel on the corner of Hartley Street and Gleadless Road, in between the old Anns Grove School and Heeley Parish Church.
It is one of the oldest buildings in the area and was the first place of worship in Heeley when it was built in 1826.
It was restored in 2001 by Heeley Development Trust and is now a well used community space.
A bright, spacious and safe room, the Institute is the perfect venue for children’s parties!

Hi Chrissie
It depends on what you plan to use it for – it holds approx 100 people standing, between 40-50 seated theatre style and between 30-40 sat around tables. If your interested in booking or want to come and have a look around The Institute, call 0114 2500613 and ask for Simon.
Cheers.

I was wondering if the institute would be available in the evenings at all for an operatic society to rehearse in and how much it would cost?
Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,
Ive had a look at the diary and it’s pretty busy in the evenings at the minute. Friday evenings are generally available and Mondays aswell (though there are occassional bookings in the diary). Would it be for a one off booking or are you looking for something on a regular basis?
Thanks, Simon

Hi I live in East London South Africa. I was born and bred (dragged up) in Kent road, Heeley. Looking at the photo of you building and the history background, I find that part of the history is missing.
During my school days at Carfield Primary/Secondary Modern school it was used as an Annex to the school. I spent part of my school days in that building and still remember the open coal fires in the class rooms. The teacher used to place all the little milk bottles as close to the fire as possible to warm up the milk ready for our milk break. At the back of the building there were air raid shelters which we used to play in a lunch time.
Thanks for bringing back those memories.
